I was probably about 14 when I became fascinated by ‘woo’.
It started, predictably, with a low key obsession with Fairuza Balk in The Craft (never has a 14-year-old gone through so many eyeliner pencils) but then I moved past the cliched Ouija boards and trying to make boys fall in love with me and became more interested in the pagan history behind the goth exterior. I read up on the theory behind wicca and its ancient origins. My friend Kate and I once camped out in the shed at the end of her garden and spent hours trying to connect with the elements. When it suddenly began to pour, we sat in disbelief, wondering if we had actually made it rain. It was, for want of a better word, magical.
