Periods. Half the people on this planet have them. They’re the subject of much misinformation, the butt of the joke at any dated stand-up comedy night and, most recently, the focus of much fevered discussion as a result of their inclusion – shock horror – in a Disney Pixar movie. They also come with a pal – a lovely little precursor known as pre-menstrual syndrome or PMS which is, unfortunately, a very common part of the menstrual cycle.

Referred to in varying degrees of seriousness, menstrual mood swing chat is far from rare. But for some people, myself included, PMS can be somewhat more intrusive.
