No question about it, the last 12 months have been bad for women.
The COVID crisis has exacerbated gender equality in our society – hitting younger women, women on low incomes, Black and minority ethnic women and women with disabilities the hardest. It has impacted women’s finances, women’s health and women’s equality. Many COVID policies put in place during the crisis appear to have either forgotten women, or actively made the situation worse for us.
So, while International Women’s Day (IWD), has been an important day for gender equality since its creation over 100 years ago (even if fast fashion brands want us to believe it's a day solely dedicated to selling slogan tees), this year, with the pressures of COVID threatening the progress we have made, it matters even more.
